Here's to passion
I ran across this great piece on Seth Godin's blog the other day. He was riffing on the difference between the workaholic, who is religiously devoted to his attendance record and his punctuality, and the passionate worker, for whom the job is as genial and stimulating as a hobby. There was one specific excerpt from his post that I found really interesting (emphasis mine):
The passionate worker is busy blogging on vacation... because posting that thought and seeing the feedback it generates is actually more fun than sitting on the beach for another hour. The passionate worker tweaks a site design after dinner because, hey, it's a lot more fun than watching TV.
Our website has just gone through a full-blown facelift. It’s been re-launched, re-branded, and re-energized. And most of the credit belongs to two people: our VP marketing, Jonathan Levitt , and his partner in crime, Sarah-Jane Morris—our resident passionate workers. The meticulous and energetic way they oversaw the re-launch was truly impressive. I know for a fact that there were plenty of evenings (both weeknight and weekend) spent tweaking and obsessing to make sure everything looked perfect.
I’m sure I speak for the whole company when I say, job well done!
